SESA Project at the Energy Week

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre (KGRTC) participated in the 2022 Energy Week commemoration activities from 3rd to 7th of October 2022. The event was officially launched on 2nd October 2022 on national television by the Minister of Energy, Honourable Peter C. Kapala MP. The objective of the Energy Week was to sensitize the public on energy efficiency and conservation, locally available alternative/renewable energy technologies as well as to raise public awareness of government programmes and developments in the energy sector as a whole. The energy week activities were mainly targeted at households, pupils and students, potential energy sector players and the industry.

The exhibition run for three days from Wednesday 5th to Friday 7th October 2022. The ILO Chief Technical Advisor, Eng. Lloyd Ngo gave a speech on courses being offered under the SESA project. He also stated the importance of skill development for economic development.

Several potential participants visited the stand and registered their interest in the various KGRTC training programmes. The SESA exhibition stand received over 180 visitors to the stand in the 3 days of the exhibition.

The Project Team also participated in the School Awareness Campaigns Programme and visited schools in Chingola, Luanshya, Kalulushi and Ndola. This campaign aimed to raise awareness of the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to the pupils. The project also arranged for practicing female engineers to address pupils in schools to encourage female pupils to consider taking up careers in Engineering.

The SESA Project in collaboration with the Engineering Institution of Zambia also organized a networking cocktail which was meant to meet and interact with various stakeholders on the Copperbelt. The cocktail was held on Friday 7th October 2022 starting at 17:30hrs at Garden Court Hotel. The Cocktail was officiated by the Kitwe District Commissioner.
