KGRTC signs 10MW Solar Expansion Agreement

Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre (KGRTC) has signed an agreement with China’s Vision High Tech for the development of Phase Two of the Namalundu Solar Project, marking a significant step in expanding Zambia’s renewable energy capacity.

The second phase will add 10 megawatts to the existing 10 megawatts generated under Phase One, increasing the project’s total output to 20 megawatts. The expanded facility is expected to be commissioned by mid-2026.

Speaking at the signing ceremony held in Lusaka today, KGRTC Head of Projects and Consultancy Mwaba Matimba said the project aligns with the institution’s commitment to diversifying the national energy mix and promoting sustainable energy solutions.

Vision High Tech General Manager Lin Yifeng reaffirmed the company’s dedication to the partnership, noting that the project will integrate Chinese technology and efficiency to ensure optimal performance. He also expressed appreciation for the continued collaboration with KGRTC.

Meanwhile, KGRTC Board Chairperson Patricia Musiya said the Namalundu Solar Project is aimed at broadening power supply sources while fostering local and international partnerships in energy development.

KGRTC Director Davies Chinkusu disclosed that ground clearing for Phase Two has already commenced, adding that full construction will begin once all regulatory requirements are finalized.
