The African Network of Centers of Excellence in Electricity (ANCEE) held the 8th Session of the ANCEE Steering committee meeting from 24th to 25th October 2019 in Morocco. Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre (KGRTC) being one of the Centers of Excellency among Training Institutions in Africa was represented by its Director Eng. Kaela Siame.
The ANCEE is a continental initiative that was launched in June 2015 by the Association of Power Utilities in Africa (APUA), with the support of the African Development Bank, the French Development Agency (AFD), and power utilities of Africa.
The overall objective of ANCEE is to improve the performance of the electrical sector and strengthen regional exchanges through capacity building measures targeted at management executives, technicians and engineers as well as policy-makers of the power sector in Africa.
Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre has since 2017 trained over 410 participants under the APUA/ANCEE project with 35% being represented by women. The numbers are likely to increase as the need for capacity building is high in most utilities.
The Steering Committee meeting and Annual General Meeting are meant to give the Centers of Excellence (CoE) and APUA Secretariat a forum to address the challenges faced by the training institutions before, during and after the training is delivered to participants from utility institutions like KGRTC. This fora also gave an opportunity for KGRTC to learn from the challenges of others through interactions made by Director Eng. Siame.
